After the last run, I was all warmed up and ready to go. So we headed to the backside of the Basin and hit Montezuma Bowl.
Some people don’t realize this, but there’s an easy way to get to the West Wall of Montezuma Bowl, without hiking too much. When you’re getting off of Lenawee Mountain Lift or Norway Lift, you want to hang a right, and go past the Ski Patrol building. You’ll get to the top of a small hill, and you’ll be able to see the sign to Montezuma Bowl. The trail will lead you straight to the top of Montezuma, where you can drop in.
The drop in to Montezuma this particular day was a bit complicated. The conditions were very icy along the wall, and catching an edge is tough. But on a powder day, this terrain is incredible. It’s a steep run, which is why I love A-Basin the most.
The hardest part, is dropping into the bowl, but it’s also the best part.
